Creating a Positive, Pro-Security Culture

Are the members of your security team the “bad guys” in your organization? Creating the right company culture requires more than the popular “just-in-time” training. Security should be a habit – not a hindrance. Everyone needs to understand the importance of security in everything that you do.

WHAT’S HOT

Keeping PII Safe from Hackers

Once again, the government’s security clearance system has been added to the Government Accountability Office’s high-risk list, which spotlights programs that need major changes. The platform is laden with legacy IT systems that are vulnerable to cyber attack.
The GAO hopes that highlighting bad behavior will stimulate change in a system that is clearly broken.

TIPS OF THE TRADE

Eliminating Discrepancies

Before you send off those SF-86 questionnaires, it’s important to make sure that you review them for completeness. Any field that was filled out incorrectly or accidentally omitted must be marked as discrepant by the background investigator. These discrepancies must then be explained in his or her report – and sometimes corroborated through other sources and record checks.
Although minor errors are expected, larger ones can significantly slow down the clearance process. Become an SF-86 Master! Your organization will appreciate it.
